Understanding the Strength of Thailand Passport

Thailand has seen improvement in its global passport ranking according to the Henley Passport Index. In recent years, Thailand has climbed from 70th place in 2022 to 64th in 2023. This index is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association and Henley & Partners, a London-based consultancy.

Visa-Free Access

Thailand passport holders have visa-free access to 82 territories, including countries like Japan, South Korea, Russia, Iraq, Turkey, Argentina, and Brazil. This allows Thai citizens to travel without the need for a visa in these locations.

Global Rankings

Thailand ranks fourth in terms of passport strength within the ASEAN region, behind Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. Globally, countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Singapore hold the top positions with access to 194 visa-free destinations.

Recent Developments

As part of efforts to stimulate economic growth, Thailand and China have agreed to permanently waive visa requirements for their citizens starting from March 1, 2024. This move aims to facilitate travel and enhance diplomatic relations between the two countries.
