Unforgettable time on Lake Geneva
Reviewed by A TripAdvisor Member on Oct 18, 2008

In my opinion this is Geneva's "must do" event and is a great way to spend a day if you are in the city. There are a variety of boat rides available; I took one of the longer ones, with stops at numerous towns including Evian and Lausanne with a 2-3 hour layover in Montreux (also worth a stop if you are a Miles Davis fan). Whether it's watching farmers work in their vineyards on the mountainside or seeing the majestic moutains of the alps this is a very peaceful, relaxing way to view the surrounding area.

Explore the lake by boat and train.

The lakeside in Geneva itself is beautiful, but for even more spectacular scenery, take a train around the lake or one of the CGN steamers. There are frequent trains to Lausanne and Montreux from Geneva, and the excellent Swiss railway network also makes it possible to visit many other scenic locations around the lake within a full or half-day. It is easy to escape from the city for a few hours to enjoy some truly great scenery, but then be back in Geneva in time for dinner! The Lake Geneva and Alps Regional Pass (for details, see MOB railway website) is worth investigating for those wishing to explore Lake Geneva more fully, while still being based in Geneva itself. It includes travel on several scenic railway lines that travel up from lakeside towns into the mountains, such as the spectacular Golden Pass line that starts in Montreux, and it also covers travel on the CGN steamers that sail the length of the lake.
