Education System in Thailand
The education system in Thailand is overseen by the Ministry of Education and consists of formal education, nonformal education, and informal education. Formal education is divided into basic education and higher education. Basic education spans 12 years and is free for all Thai citizens.
Structure of Formal Education
- Preprimary Education: Ages 3-6, Kindergarten 1-3
- Primary Education: Ages 7-12, Grades 1-6
- Lower Secondary Education: Ages 13-16, Grades 7-9
- Upper Secondary Education: Ages 16-18, Grades 10-12
Graduation Age in Thailand
Students typically enter primary school at age 6 and graduate from lower secondary school at age 16. This means that students typically graduate from lower secondary school at the age of 16 in Thailand.
Mathematics and Science Curriculum
The Basic Education Core Curriculum includes eight learning areas, with Mathematics and Science being key subjects. The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) is responsible for developing mathematics and science curricula and supporting teaching and learning in these subjects.
